On Thursday January 30 at 18:30, the Amnesty International Maastricht Students group will host a free screening of the documentary, “True Justice: Bryan Stevenson’s Fight for Equality” at the Law Faculty.

The documentary is about the most memorable cases of an American lawyer, Bryan Stevenson. Bryan Stevenson is a public defender in Alabama and is well-known for his legal advocacy on behalf of death row inmates and indigent clients, who are predominantly African American. The documentary also examines the enduring relationship between slavery and racial discrimination, the death penalty, and the U.S. criminal legal system.

The presenter for this film is Jennifer Kamorowski, a lawyer from the United States who previously worked as a defense investigator on a death penalty case. She is currently studying for a PhD in legal psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. She also holds a master’s degree in criminology and has broad knowledge of some of the most pressing problems in the U.S. criminal legal system.
This event will include a brief presentation by Jennifer as an introduction to the film. Following the screening, there will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.
